I heard this at a hair salon a day ago. What is up with this? Im tired of media relations and gossip columns turning everything into the same typical stereotype bullshit. What defines punk? Music? Clothes? Skating?...NO. Ever since i can remember, i have been a narsotisticist (avoider of mainstream, government relations of any type) I know, in the world i would be known as a "PUNK"! Im tired of people slipping on a pair of bondage jeans, a band tshirt, and combat boots. and all of a sudden thinking they understand "OUR" culture. There is a HUGE political sense to our culture that most people dont, and never will understand. You think by listening to "My Chemical Romance" Your "PUNK"?? Sorry, wake up. Go march in a black parade or something...And prep? What makes a prep? Hollister? Abercrombie, blonde hair, big sunglasses, money? Prep, may be a stereotype, in fact, it probably is....I'm tired of people mixing "Punk" with preps, and goths, and emos, and jocks, and nerds. We dont belong!
Prep is OUT? Goth/punk is IN?
Hahaha! Isn't it amusing to watch trends go "in" and "out" with the whims of the hottest fashion magazine? They are trying to use their influence to change the way fashion victims wish to look, therefore creating a market for the latest advertisers that have signed on. It is inevitable that, if you look distinctive, you invite label-slappers. Even within a culture, there are variations. There will always be the pretenders who are labelled as "punk" and the punks at heart who dress normally but maintain an outsider attitude. When the Lord of the Rings movies were big, it was the big thing to be a "geek," or a "nerd," and suddenly everyone defined what one was. This irritated the people who read Tolkien in the 70's, naturally.
In the early 80's, I was called "greasy," but now it would be "goth." I think Rowling's description of Professor Snape in Harry Potter contrasted with the look of Alan Rickman in the movie role sums it up. Is he "goth" or is he a "greasy git," as he's called in the books? Labels are mutable and really don't mean anything in the end.
Prep is OUT? Goth/punk is IN?
This is just a stage in your life that you will eventually grow out of.
Prep is OUT? Goth/punk is IN?
Why do you care what other people think? Sounds to me your overly concerned about being or not being a stereotype. Believe me dude, noone cares.
Prep is OUT? Goth/punk is IN?
WTF!! i know what you mean...ive always liked the alternative stuff, since pop was in and every one loved britney spears and nsync. i likied the linkin park(which has changed soooo much, i frekin hate them now) and greenday, ill nino, and ozzy, and megadeth, etc..
i never thought i would say this but iwish pop music would make a come back that i can have my genre back....since when is 3DG emo, since when does every one like ozzy...get a grip ppl!! it makes me sick. what i got made fun of for in highschool is what makes these posers popular...crazy!
punk is the new prep...goth(or its suckie imitation-emo) is the new in style. if i hear one more whiny-emo band, im going to pull my hair out!!
im not sure what id be called, ive never been into labels anyway, but if i had to say what i looked most like, it would be goth/"punk"
Prep is OUT? Goth/punk is IN?
I agree. But unfortunately for me, I have to deal with the talk of stereotypes at school everyday. I love MCR, but I know they are not punk. Though some people can't get that through their mind.
