Do you think punk is dead?

I do not mean TODAYS screwed up image of punk, I mean the REAL stuff (Black Flag, Sex Pistols, so on and so forth.)

I think so, in a sense. No matter how many people try to keep it alive, it just wont stay. I know first hand.

Today I wore my skinny jeans, Ramones shirt, converse, and leather jacket, (my hair was also all sticking up everywhere) just to see what reactions I would get. I got weird looks and one girl even said "What the hell are you?"

No one knows what punk is anymore!!!!!!

And to make things worse, now we got Blink-182 and Green Day out there changing punk into pop/punk, and making everyone think that they're true punk.

I think that its dying. I dont like it, but I guess things happen that way.

Whats your opinion? And what can we do to keep it alive?

noway, i dont think things "die". I think people who roll with the trend say things are dead, similar to "so 10 mins ago".

We may have lost CBGB's, but punk is still alive. It's just not going to have the following it used to, and, like other flavors of rock, is going to change. Nobody writes songs like the Beatles do, either.

what punk needs is a really great band to represent it with the proper imagery to make it cool again

Punk is alive and well, so do not fret.

It all really depends on where you live. Some parts of the world are open to it and some are closed, but this won't stop a true punk. The underground punk scene is just as active as it has ever been and I don't see it leaving anytime soon. Punk isn't mainstream because it was never meant to be mainstream and it probably never will be. The founders of punk never intended it to be so, so Green Day has no power here. :)

Just because there aren't any people "like you" in your area doesn't mean you are the only one left. So don't worry, wear your beat up converses and slashed up punk shirts. ENJOY being WHATEVER you want to be no matter if it is dead or alive.

Punk was a fashion and style of music. It cannot ever be "dead". It's just elitist morons who seemed to think it was something more than that. People who think it was some kind of "movement" are out of their mind.

I have a mohawk and one time this girl came up to me and said "Oh my god! I love punk music it's like sooooooo totally awesome!! like yeah." so I decided to play along and I asked her what her favorite bands were she said Good Charlotte ( can you ******* believe that ****!). It took every once of self control in my body to not deck her then and there.

Just cos someone dresses like a punk doesn't mean they are. It's more of a fashion statement than saying anything about music.

The punk aesthetic of doing whatever the hell you want is still around in music, don't worry. But the clothes are not important.

i know. these days people think 'hardcore' is like...the all american rejects. i wish people could make modern music that rocks like the old stuff. since i'm pretty young, i can't see a live show with decent music because most of today's artists are garbage.
